First World Chasselas Day
12 December 2023
D
Mark your calendars for December 12, 2023, as we celebrate the inaugural World Chasselas Day. Join in the festivities, from special promotions to gourmet events, and raise a glass to the globally recognized Swiss treasure – Chasselas!
In honour of this day (and the wines which are inarguably indigenous to Switzerland and more specifically to my region), I introduce three of my favourite Chasselas from Switzerland.

Chasselas from Domaine Tour de Marsens. Because I am so impressed that this young vigneron started almost from scratch. Specifically, he did NOT inherit this business. Nor the vines. He is a true entrepreneur and started this label himself (with a family history in winegrowing and a winemaking background from Changins). But, still, he started this label himself. Even though it is steeped in a few hundred years of history.
We also held our first Foodies Dinner in the Vineyard here so it will always be close to my heart.
Calamin, Grand Cru (Yvonne and Franco Bianco)
I am lucky enough to have tried this wine. We were doing our yearly salasion (seasoning the meat for viande séché) and one guy at my table said: “Try this wine. My cousin makes it. He only makes about 500 bottles.” I look at the label–I recognize the appellation CALAMIN in the Lavaux. So surprising, because we are in the Valais making our salaison.
I taste it. Light. Crisp. It dances in my mouth. I’m a wine lover, not a wine connoisseur. But I know what I like.
You can only buy it directly from the producers. Contact Yvonne at yvonne.franco@bluewin.ch.

GLOUGLOU BLABLA from the Cave Le Tambourin.
We discovered this wine during COVID… a magnum! Because that is what exactly what we needed then: A magnum of “vin du soif” and a few neighbours. We have since consumed more than a few more magnums (always with friends because wine is about drinking and talking, exchanging moments).
So. Those are my three choices today for our inaugural World Chasselas Day.
What was in your glass? If you don’t know, why not try a Cavo-Pass and find out?
